Florida baseball has officially added right-handed pitcher Zach Edwards to its roster through the NCAA transfer portal, according to reports from Jacob Rudner of Baseball America. The move brings another former Oregon State Beavers arm to Gainesville as the program looks to strengthen its pitching depth for the upcoming season.

A High-Velocity Addition

Edwards, a rising junior originally from Riverton, Utah, stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 230 pounds. During his two-year collegiate career at Oregon State, he appeared in 34 games, all out of the bullpen, accumulating 44 1/3 innings pitched.

His statistical profile includes a 5.68 earned run average (ERA) with 59 strikeouts against just 20 walks over that span. He held opposing batters to a .231 batting average while allowing only three home runs and nine wild pitches across his appearances for the Beavers.

Performance Breakdown

In his freshman season in 2025, Edwards appeared in 16 games with a record of one win and no losses. He recorded one save over 18 2/3 innings, striking out 22 batters while issuing nine walks.

As a sophomore last year, he saw action in 18 contests, earning two saves and maintaining a 5.61 ERA. His strikeout total climbed to 37 across 25 2/3 innings of work against Oregon State opponents.

Joining the Gators' Pitching Staff

Rudner notes that Edwards sits at 95-96 mph with his fastball, touching up to 99 mph. He also utilizes a cutter and draws a significant whiff rate on his slider. This signing follows the arrival of southpaw Trey Morris, who is following newly hired pitching coach Rich Dorman from Corvallis to Gainesville this offseason.

Broader Transfer Portal Activity

The acquisition of Edwards comes amid significant roster turnover for Florida. Seven pitchers have entered the transfer portal, including McCall Biemiller and Eli Blair. On the position player side, starting second baseman Cade Kurland is heading to LSU.

Florida has already secured commitments from former FGCU catcher Jon Embury, Jacksonville State right-hander Maddox McDougall, Oregon State’s Trey Morris, Utah State infielder Kyle McDaniel, and FAU infielder John Martinez. The Gators continue to reshape their roster through the portal as they prepare for the 2026 season.
