Orlando City SC has officially announced the return of forward Daryl Dike to its roster, marking a significant move for the Major League Soccer club as it prepares for the second half of the 2026 season. The Lions confirmed that the 26-year-old Edmond, Oklahoma native has signed a free agent contract with his first professional club after spending five seasons playing in England’s EFL Championship for West Bromwich Albion FC. This strategic addition comes as Orlando City looks to strengthen its lineup following the World Cup break.
A Homecoming for Dike
Dike, who was originally selected by Orlando City with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, brings a proven track record of productivity to Central Florida. During his initial stint with the Lions, he made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists. His most productive campaign came in 2021, where he led the team with 11 goals across all competitions.
His contract is structured through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, which aligns with Major League Soccer's transition to a summer-to-spring schedule starting in 2027. The agreement also includes club options for the 2027-28 season. To secure Dike’s Discovery Priority—a mechanism granting Orlando City first negotiation rights over non-league players—the Lions transferred $75,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) to Seattle Sounders FC. An additional $75,000 GAM will be paid if specific performance-based metrics are met.
Boosting the Attack Before Key Matches
The signing of Dike represents Orlando City’s latest effort to upgrade its offensive capabilities, complementing the recent acquisition of French star Antoine Griezmann. The team is preparing for a challenging stretch of MLS action immediately following this announcement. Orlando City faces an away match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday at 10:30 p.m., followed by their first post-break home game against Nashville SC on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The stakes are high for both fixtures. The Earthquakes currently sit second in the Western Conference with a strong record of 10-3-2, while Nashville leads the Eastern Conference with 36 points and recently defeated Orlando City 5-0 earlier this year. As of now, Orlando sits at 4-9-2 in the MLS Eastern Conference, making these upcoming games critical for their playoff positioning.
Local Talent Joins Roster
In addition to Dike’s high-profile return, Orlando City SC has bolstered its youth development pipeline by signing two homegrown players. Goalkeeper Tristan Himes, a 22-year-old native of DeBary in southwest Volusia County, signed his first professional contract through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season with options for subsequent years. Himes, who played collegiately at South Carolina and Coastal Carolina, has already made an impact with Orlando City B.
The club also signed 17-year-old defender Clovis Archange to a first-team contract through the 2029 calendar year. Born in Cameroon and raised in Montreal, Archange previously anchored the Orlando City U18 team that won the 2025 Generation adidas Cup. These signings highlight the club's dual focus on immediate competitive strength with experienced forwards like Dike while continuing to nurture local talent from the Central Florida community.
