One person was killed and three others were injured when they were struck by lightning on a popular Florida beach Friday, according to officials. The Fort Myers Beach Fire District reported the incident occurred around 3 p.m., prompting an urgent dispatch of crews to the 6600 block of Estero Boulevard in Fort Myers Beach.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency personnel found one individual who was unresponsive. Three other victims were identified as needing immediate medical attention and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. The severity of the injuries sustained by all four individuals highlighted the dangerous nature of the weather event that struck without much warning.
Bystander Efforts
<Officials noted that bystanders played a critical role in the initial response. A witness was able to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and performed CPR on the unresponsive person before emergency crews arrived. Despite these immediate life-saving efforts, officials stated that due to the severity of the injuries, the attempts were not successful.
